Born in the 1920s on the Balboa Peninsula (near San Diego), this dance rooted in Charleston was originally designed to take up less space on crowded dance floors.
Rich in footwork and well-suited to fast tempos, Balboa is danced primarily in closed position (close embrace). Its chest-to-chest connection, sliding basic step and 1930s elegance give it sensations reminiscent of tango. A must-discover!
